Gas System Diagrams
Did you know that gas system diagrams showing the existing pipework installation within buildings of ‘Large Consumers’ is a statutory requirement under the Gas Safety Regulations? This duty is also stipulated within other gas industry standards such as the Institution of Gas Engineers & Managers documents IGEM/UP/2 and IGEM/UP/10.
‘Large Consumers’ are all non-domestic applications and sectors such as industrial or commercial, though multiple property domestic circumstances will also be subject to this regulation. Typically, this is considered to be a development with an incoming gas service pipe of 50mm.
As a minimum, these diagrams should be prominently displayed at or near to the primary gas meter and are intended to allow anyone, especially the emergency services, to identify and isolate part of the gas system if necessary.
Further detail and information on the Gas Regulations on this provision can be found in the HSE document ACoP L56.
We regularly help our clients meet this compliance requirement by first surveying the entire gas services installation within the property and producing a gas schematic (line diagram). Once the schematic is complete, we laminate a couple of copies and return to site to fit them. One in the gas meter room and one near the main connected appliances.
If this hasn’t yet been undertaken for your building then please contact us for a quotation.
