Insight FM recently undertook an asset survey at a large mixed-use development which involved inspection of every plantroom, switchroom and riser cupboard on the premises. What was an onerous task to begin with was made even more difficult and time consuming by the fact that each door had a different key – and needless to say, the doors were not referenced!
In our experience, it is not uncommon to encounter such a poorly implemented access strategy which will inevitably lead to time lost on-site.
Had a considered strategy been in place at design stage a handful of suited keys, rather than numerous individual keys, could have been provided to secure the various plantrooms.
This highlights the real need for a considered access strategy to be adopted during the design process.
